Vitrification
VitMaster – novel vitrification technique and OPS
VIT MASTER vitrification device with liquid nitrogen chamber (1 liter), temperature
display of liquid nitrogen and sample vial, thawing unit and vacuum kit.
- avoids chilling injuries within the range of +20 to 0°C by applying a very high cooling rate
- avoids icecrystal formation both intracellular and extracellular by applying coling rates of up to 130.000°C/min
- repeatable, constant and linear cooling rate
- controlled warming unit for thawing material in cryovials
- samples are vitrified and stored in the same vial
- Increased cooling rates allow reduction of cryoprotectants concentration

Vitrification is a thermodynamic process in which liquid material is transformed into
a solid, glass like state without the formation of ice christals.
Applying vacuum on liquid nitrogen reduces the LN2 temperature below its boiling point,
thus preventing the occurence of an insulating vapor envelope around the sample,
which commonly appears while plunging into LN2.

VitSet
Set for vitrifying embryos or oocytes in OPS straws
Ref. No. 19500/2000
OPS or SOPS straws are known as the ideal containers for vitrifying oocytes or embryos. Due
to their extremely small diameters and minimal freezing volumes, the process of cooling is so
fast, that crystallization in the medium and the cell can be avoided.
Since OPS straws stay open, the danger of contamination of the cells exists while being
stored in liquid nitrogen. Besides this, it is hardly possible to correctly label the OPS
tubes.
With the VitSet both of these problems can be solved: after vitrification of the OPS straws
in the nitrogen bath, each OPS is then placed in a larger labeled straw while surrounded
by nitrogen vapor. This larger straw (0.5 ml) is already closed at one end and lying on a
special block. Afterwards, the other end of the larger straw is sealed with a hand held
sealing unit, while it still remains in the nitrogen vapor. Finally, the sealed straws are
stored in cassettes in the storage container.
