Culture dish
In the in vivo condition, mammalian embryos develop and flourish in an intricate and
ever changing environment. To date, even the most sophisticated techniques available
have been able to do little more than offer a humble imitation of this delicate natural
environment.
While no one expects that scientific endeavor will ever replicate the
delicate situation found in utero, microfluidic technology brings embryologists a
significant step closer by offering a truly dynamic environment in which to manage
embryo production, development and monitoring.

VitaeCell™ - a fully contained culture system that provides an excellent simulation
of the biological condition even to the extent of providing for the natural rotation
of the embryo found in nature.

Dynamic Cell Culture
Research now in progress aims to take microfluidic embryo culture far beyond a simple
culture device. Already VitæCell™ designs have been developed that allow cumulus cell
removal and even ‘zona’ removal without the embryo ever leaving the VitæCell™ device.
Designs are envisaged that provide:
- Biochemical communication between isolated embryos using multi-chamber devices
- Constant monitoring of the culture micro-environment using nano-probe technology
- Real-time visual evaluation of embryo development
- The ability to mimic the constant movement embryos experience in-vivo
- Telemetric monitoring of vital culture conditions for individual embryo from outside
the incubator
- Inclusion of electronic identification verification for individual embryos
