CTE2200 Controlled rate freezer

Even in the age of vitrification, controlled rate freezing is far from being an outdated technology: if it comes to higher numbers of pronuclear stages or embryos to be cryopreserved, this well established technology is more economic regarding working time and cost of media. For sperm as well as testicular and ovarian tissue, controlled rate freezing is still the gold standard.

 

Like all CTE freezers, the current model works according to the “open vessel principle”: instead of having a closed freezing chamber, the system moves the straws down along a temperature gradient which is established after filling an open dewar with approx. 1.5 litres of liquid nitrogen. The user can enter up to nine freezing programs into a non-volatile memory, each consisting of up to nine segments. An integrated printer or a pdf file generated by the optional software will document each freezing procedure. Semi-automatic auto-zero calibration is easily performed by the user. The CTE2200 is using three types of CTE security straws which are fully sealed.
